Job Description / Duties
The Chiropodist plays a critical role in the interdisciplinary management of patients with complex foot wounds. The scope of practice includes comprehensive patient care, advanced wound management, and biomechanical offloading strategies to promote healing and prevent complications.
Key Responsibilities:
Conduct thorough lower limb and foot evaluations, including vascular, neurological, dermatological, and biomechanical assessments.
Identify wound etiology and contributing systemic or local factors.
Document wound characteristics using standardized tools and digital imaging.
Perform sharp debridement techniques as clinically indicated.
Monitor for signs of infection or deterioration and escalate care appropriately.
Select evidence-based wound dressings tailored to wound type, exudate level, infection status, and patient tolerance.
Educate patients and caregivers on dressing care and wound hygiene.
Assess gait and pressure points contributing to wound formation or delayed healing.
Recommend and implement offloading strategies including felt padding, orthotics, and footwear modifications.
Apply Total Contact Casts (TCC) in-clinic when indicated for optimal offloading of plantar ulcers.
Work closely with physicians, orthopedic surgeons, vascular specialists, infectious diseases specialists, endocrinologists, nurses and other allied health professionals.
Provide education on foot care, wound prevention, glycemic control, and lifestyle modifications.
Qualifications / Required Skills
Basic Requirements
Diploma in chiropody/podiatry or equivalent;
Registration with the College of Chiropodists of Ontario;
Clinical and educational skills including assessing clients needs, assessment and treatment of routine foot problems, providing referrals, prescription, adjustment and modification foot orthoses, assessment and treatment of high risk foot problems;
Wound care experience;
Client-centered approach that incorporates treatment, illness prevention and health promotion;
Knowledge of computers;
Proven ability in working effectively with all members of the Health Care team;
Excellent communication, issue management and interpersonal skills;
Must be eligible to work in Canada.

Preferred Qualifications
International Interdisciplinary Wound Care Course (IIWCC);
MClSc - WH;
Proficiency in English and French – oral expression (advanced level) and comprehension (advanced level).
