Job Description / Duties

GENERAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:

The Chiropodist serves as a champion of the Vision and Mission and promotes an environment that is consistent to the Health Centre’s Statement of Values and Principles. The Chiropodist is an essential member of the client-centred health professional Team. The Chiropodist will work with the other members of the Health Centre’s teams to effectively and efficiently serve Health Centre clients through traditional, non- traditional and innovative approaches to service delivery within the broad determinants of health framework.

SUMMARY OF FUNCTIONS:

The Chiropodist will provide diabetic foot care services at Compass CH main site and/or at various Satellite Clinics in the south west Ontario area. The Chiropodist’s approach to client care is evidenced based and innovative and utilizes current therapeutic techniques within the determinants of health framework. This position works within an inter-professional team-based model in terms of both the clinical practice and program planning aspects of its responsibilities. A systems perspective and attention to continuous quality improvement are essential to the success of this position.

SPECIFIC ACCOUNTABILITIES:

1. Provide general chiropody services.
2. Provide orthotic services.
3. To be a resource person to the staff, students and community regarding foot care.
4. To develop, implement and evaluate chiropody health promotion activities in the Community, including increasing the awareness of this service.
5. To provide clinical instruction to learners, and students of chiropody and other health professions.
6. To design and maintain a system to coordinate chiropody and orthotic activities provided at the Health Centre and at other affiliated health care institutions.
7. To be a member of the multi-disciplinary team of health professionals providing family care to clients and to the community.
8. Such other activities as may be assigned.

Qualifications / Required Skills

QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Registered with the College of Chiropodist of Ontario under the 1994 Chiropody Act.
2. Post graduate preparation or equivalent experience of a minimum of 2 years’ practice.
3. Possess excellent assessment, organizational and problem-solving skills.
4. Availability of transportation to outlying clinics.
5. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
6. Enthusiasm to serve a diverse community.
7. Ability to work independently.
8. Proficiency in the use of personal computers and software.

Compass Community Health in partnership with Hamilton Urban Core Community Health Centre is currently seeking a:

Chiropodist
10-Month Contract – up to 1.0 FTE (37.5 hours/week)
Hourly Salary Range: $34.23 - $40.59


This new collaboration with Hamilton Health Sciences, is a targeted approach to help reduce the lower limb amputation rate in Hamilton. It is part of the Lower Limb Preservation initiative funded by Ontario Health. This is a new position that will help utilize the strengths of both community health centres to increase foot care access for medium to high risk diabetic clients. By engaging community partners, we are striving to integrate care in the Hamilton Region.


• The program provides foot care services to persons with diabetes that are at risk for lower limb complications
• This is a community health-based program fully funded by Ontario Health – there is no cost to clients for care
• The program focuses on clients who are at medium to high risk for diabetic foot complications
