Job Description / Duties
Performs assessment, diagnosis, treatment, health
education/counselling for diseases, disorders and dysfunctions of the foot and other clinical foot care activities according to the College of Chiropodists of Ontario.
• Provides patient care including treating acute/chronic infections and ulcers,
taking culture samples, performing soft tissue surgery, and administration of a local anesthetic.
• Provides patient care to clients experiencing mental health and/or addictions related challenges in clinics, off-site clinics and in homes for homebound clients.
• Ensures chiropody areas, resources, materials, and equipment are maintained.
• Provides foot health education to both patients and allied health professionals and interested community groups or associations.
• Arranges, wherever practically possible, home foot care for patients unable to attend chiropody treatment.
• Where appropriate, develops partnerships and alliances to optimize health
care service provision and address the needs of the community.
• Maintains complete and accurate client records, assessment notes and required correspondence.
Qualifications / Required Skills
• Undergraduate degree/diploma in chiropody from a COCOO-approved postsecondary program is required. Must hold a general certificate of registration with the College of Chiropodists of Ontario.
• Must have the ability to work to the full scope of practice for a Chiropodist in Ontario.
• Certification in Local Anesthesia, Soft Tissue Surgery, Injections,
Pharmacology is preferred.
• Candidates with previous experience in primary care or community health setting are preferred.
• Familiarity and understanding of Population Health and Equity in Health Care including an understanding of Anti-Racism and appreciation of Anti-Racism in the Ontario and Canadian context, and in particular Anti-Black Racism and Anti-Indigenous Racism.
• Must have experience working with individuals with persistent mental health and or addictions challenges.
• Additional training and/or experience in an area relevant to the services provided by the organization, for example: experience providing care to seniors, individuals with diabetes, individuals with complex health and/or mental health issues.
• Demonstrated commitment to and knowledge of community health care.
• Demonstrated ability to work in an inter-professional team environment.
• Proficiency in the use of computers, Microsoft Office applications and electronic health records.
• Excellent interpersonal skills.
• Excellent communication, decision-making, problem-solving, conflict management and time management skills.
Ability to speak a second language relevant to catchment area populations (Spanish, Portuguese, Polish, Ukrainian, Russian, Arabic, Tigrinya) is an asset.
Additional Information
The position is 0.50 FTE (17.5 hrs per week) – 18 months contract.
The successful candidate is entitled to a total of 10% of gross earnings in lieu of benefits and vacation pay, as follows:
4% vacation pay at the beginning of employment; and
6% benefit pay after passing probationary period of 450 hours for part-time staff
May opt for prorated vacation leave in lieu of 4% vacation pay
Are entitled to paid sick leave, to a maximum of 7.50 sick leave days for one fiscal year
